What to Expect from a Free Custom Closet Consultation

Many who reach out to Bella Systems about a custom closet upgrade share the same hesitation: they’re not sure what they might be walking into (beyond a new closet!).

Is it a hard-sell appointment? How specific do they need to be about what they want? What if they don’t have a clear vision yet?

These are reasonable questions – which is why every Bella consultation is intentionally low-pressure. Rather than a quick sell, consultations are your chance to explore what’s possible and how to design a solution that fits your lifestyle.

Thinking about a custom closet remodel or upgrade? Here’s what the process looks like – so you know exactly what to expect before you pick up the phone.

Why Schedule a Custom Closet Consultation?

Your closet is something you use every single day. That means it matters how it turns out!

That’s why a consultation exists. At Bella Systems, ourr consults seek to answer one question: what would the right system look like for your space and how you use it?

Most of the time, that can’t be answered from a website or a catalog. It requires a conversation that considers your home’s specific dimensions and a real look at the space.

Bella’s process is designed so that everything downstream — the 3D rendering, the proposal, the installation — is built on what the designer learns during this first visit. Our goal is to turn ideas into concrete plans that you feel great about from start to finish!

How to Prepare Before a Consultation Visit

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to empty your closet before the consultation.

A designer knows closets and can typically measure and assess your belongings. Plus, seeing how you’re currently using the space gives them useful context on what’s working and what isn’t.

What does help? Take a few minutes to reflect on your closet space beforehand. Think about your pain points:

  • What frustrates you most about your current setup?
  • What do you consistently run out of — hanging space, drawer space, a place for shoes?

If you have time, even a light edit of obvious clutter is worthwhile. It helps the designer see your real wardrobe rather than everything you’ve been meaning to clear out. Plus, if you have inspiration images saved from anywhere, have them ready for review.

Bella offers both in-home and virtual consultations. For an in-home visit, no special prep is needed beyond the above.

For a virtual consultation, take photos of the space from multiple angles and jot down basic dimensions so the designer has concrete material to work from before the call.

What Your Designer Will Do During the Visit

Once your Bella designer arrives, they will start by touring the space and asking questions.

But skilled designers go beyond the closet itself. They’ll ask you about your daily routine, the types of things you store, and any layout or finish preferences you already have. They want to know how you use the space daily, not just how big it is.

From there, they’ll take detailed measurements and, if helpful, walk through your inventory to recommend the right mix of hanging sections, shelving, drawers, and accessories.

You’ll also take a look at some specifics, such as finish samples, colors, and hardware options. This helps ground the potential design in what you want to live with.

In some cases, the designer will sketch layout ideas or start a preliminary digital plan during the visit itself, giving you something to react to while you’re still together. Design consultations typically run 1–2 hours, depending on the scope of the project, though designers stay as long as the conversation requires.

The 3D Rendering and Proposal Process

After the visit, it’s time to bring ideas to life!

Bella’s designers take your measurements and notes and work to develop a detailed layout. This design phase produces a 3D rendering of your proposed space, along with a pricing proposal, so you can see exactly what your new closet will look like before anything is ordered or built.

Bella’s local teams typically send layouts and quotes within a few days of the consultation. We love offering 3D renderings, as this is where the project stops being abstract.

In 3d, you can see how it all works in the visual space – the hanging sections, the drawer configuration, the shelving heights, and the finishes all together in a view of your actual room.

If something doesn’t look right, this is the moment to raise it with your designer to make sure everything is set before work begins.

Revisions, Approval, and Scheduling

Once you receive the proposal, nothing is locked in. You have a chance to review the design, ask questions, and request adjustments. Some clients request more drawers or a change in finish – whatever the plan needs to achieve a satisfactory result.

Financing is available if the budget comes up at this stage. Bella’s team can walk you through options so cost doesn’t stand between you and a system that genuinely fits.

Once the design is approved and you’re ready to move forward, your installation date is scheduled. The timeline can vary based on current Bella Systems client projects, but it is typically set up several weeks out to allow for production and any final decisions.

From Approval to Install Day

We know that the time between design approval and installation can feel vague and create anxiety. That’s why we design this stage to feel guided rather than uncertain. Your designer will work with you closely, so you always know what’s being built, when it’s coming, and what basic prep will help the install go smoothly.

Bella’s professional installation team handles delivery, assembly, and mounting, working to keep the process quick for most projects – with as little interruption to your daily life as possible.

Ready to Schedule Your Consultation?

A custom closet consultation should feel like a conversation – one that gives a designer the information they need to show you exactly what’s possible.

With Bella, the consultation process is low-pressure. The 3D rendering makes the design real before you spend anything. And when it comes to the installation itself, the process is typically faster than most people expect.
